University of Cape Town

South Africa’s oldest university, the ivy-blanketed buildings on this English campus have seen their fair share of bright minds since its inception in 1829, including Nobel prize laureate JM Coetzee. The university was internationally recognised for its continued opposition to apartheid, back in the day, before liberalism and race equality were in vogue. UCT’s arts and drama faculties are situated in its city satellite, Hiddingh Campus, which has two theatres and a gallery.
